Do I Give God Leftovers?

Does God get my leftovers? It is a haunting question. I've been thinking about this ever since hearing another pastor preach about it last week and reading about it in Crazy Love. We all know what leftovers are. Some people give their best to their work... or hobbies... or the football game the night before (or some other event). Then Sunday morning rolls around and they drag themselves to church and give God leftovers. So sad. So heartbreaking. And yet it happens all the time.

Here is what Francis Chan wrote about it:

"For years I gave God leftovers and felt no shame. It's easy to fill ourselves up with other things and then give God whatever is left. God gets a scrap or two only because we feel guilty for giving Him nothing. A mumbled three minute prayer at the end of the day, when we are already half asleep. Two crumpled-up dollar bills thrown as an afterthought into the church's fund for the poor. Fetch, God!"

Yep, definitely guilty here. It's a hard call to make knowing when 'be still and know that He is God' isn't 'sitting and doing nothing'. It's also hard for us women...anyone, really...being more like Mary and less like Martha.
