Sermons You Need To Hear

As many of you know, I listen to quite a few sermons (always hoping to improve my own, of course!). Occasionally I recommend some of these to you. Here's a strong one recently preached by my friend Brandon Powell over at Christ Baptist Church in Wilson. His sermon was on Psalm 1, and he was very effective at describing what it means to "delight" in the law of God. Add to that his obvious gratefulness for our Savior, and this sermon should find its way onto your own personal "sermons you need to hear" list.

Pentecost Sunday

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. No doubt about it, this was certainly an exciting day in church history. Picture it if you can: the gathering of believers... the sound like a mighty rushing wind... the appearance of fire resting upon them... the filling of the Holy Spirit... the overflow of praise in multiple languages... the bewilderment of the crowd... and the instantaneous growth of the early church from 120 to 3000 after Peter's first sermon. What a day! Although not the "greatest day" in history - that esteemed honor belongs exclusively to Resurrection Sunday - it's definitely up there with the best of of them!

How do the events of that day affect us as believers today? Join us as we consider this and celebrate this exciting holy day at Servant's Heart Fellowship.

"How To Pray Badly"

It's no secret that Christians often struggle with prayer - especially when they feel like God is not listening. When this does happen (and it will) it is always good to do a self evaluation. Here's a helpful tool: Tim Challies has written an article called "How to Pray Badly" that lists 6 reasons why our prayers may seem to go unanswered by God.
1. selfish motives
2. turning away from Scripture
3. unforgiving hearts
4. family discord
5. unconfessed sin
6. doubt
